Getting Started: Your First BuddyMe Agent
Prerequisites
Before you start, make sure you have:
- Python 3.10 or later
- At least one LLM API key (GLM, Claude, or DeepSeek)
- A terminal you're comfortable with
Installation
pip install buddyme
That's it. No Docker, no database, no config server.
Initialize Your Workspace
buddyme init my-agent
cd my-agent
This creates a workspace with the default SOUL and IDENTITY files:
my-agent/
├── SOUL.md # Core personality
├── IDENTITY.md # Role definition
├── AGENT.md # Runtime config
├── initspace/
│ └── memorys/ # Session memory
└── skill_library/ # Custom skills
Configure Your API Keys
Create a .env file in your workspace:
GLM_API_KEY=your_key_here
CLAUDE_API_KEY=your_key_here
DEEPSEEK_API_KEY=your_key_here
You only need one key to get started. Add more later for multi-model support.
Run Your Agent
buddyme run
Your agent is now running in the terminal. Start chatting, use /model to switch providers, and /skill to activate specialized capabilities.
Next Steps
- Customize
SOUL.mdto match your preferred communication style - Edit
IDENTITY.mdto define the agent's role for your use case - Create custom skills in
skill_library/ - Use
